Street Symphony is dedicated to illuminating musical and artistic voices from within the Skid Row community. This month’s spotlight is on our newest Fellow, Malek Vossough. A resident of The Midnight Mission for 16 months, Malek graduated from the Mission’s Healthy Living Program in 2015. While residing at the Mission, Malek, who is an incredible violinist – with particular talent in Near-Eastern, Middle Eastern, and Arabic music -attended several Music With A Mission events. A friendship was born, and Street Symphony was honored to provide Malek with violin lessons, which helped ensure his readmission to the music department at CSUN. As a Street Symphony Fellow, Malek will continue to receive lessons venturing into composition and arranging, while completing his desgree at CSUN and using his unique postion as aspiring professional musician – and member of the Skid Row community – to connect to his community through the power of music.
